The Financial Accountant I/II is a member of the Accounting group reporting to the Accounting Manager. This individual will work with the Accounting team to prepare quarterly and annual statutory financial statements in accordance with GAAP and statutory accounting requirements and assist with bank and balance sheet account certifications. This will include preparing journal entries and supporting schedules, executing proper controls, preparing detailed reconciliations, and preparing reporting in support of fulfilling the Company's financial filings on a timely basis. This role will also support our accounting software implementation. They will assist in providing support to accounting management in an effort to support others within Finance, support internal and external routine audits, and other ad hoc tasks as they arise. Candidate will be hired at the appropriate level based on experience.

Key Responsibilities

Prepares and processes accounting journal entries for routine accounts. Works with others in the Company to obtain necessary details behind accounting entries or to resolve any discrepancies.

Reconciles financial balances for balance sheet accounts to underlying support, and either independently or with the assistance of other team members is able to research and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.

Assists in the preparation of the quarterly and annual financial statements and performs additional analysis to prepare and analyze Cash Flows.

Assists in implementing our new accounting software. Has the ability to learn and understand technical aspects of the new system, and become a key contributor to creating system accounting rules and reporting.

Assists in supporting company-wide IT projects to ensure all financial transactions and reporting are accounted for appropriately.

Establishes relationships with IT and Actuarial department contacts to ensure the implementation is successful.

Demonstrates a progressing understanding of statutory accounting and reporting requirements applicable to Arbella. Is able to grasp accounting technical guidance of basic accounting scenarios. Contributes to team efforts of establishing new procedures within the accounting records.

Performs research over differences between the new accounting system and source systems.

Supports internal and external auditors. Works with other Accountants to assist auditors to provide them with further analysis or explanations related to the information they need.

Takes the lead on reconciling our health plan account. Establishes relationships with HR department contacts in collaboration efforts to reconcile general ledger accounts.

Works well in team environment to meet all deadlines and prioritize responsibilities.

Maintains a high level of detail orientation throughout daily tasks and the ability to research and resolve various reconciling items.

Maintains in fact and appearance the utmost level of confidence, integrity and trust.

Maintains an approachable attitude and promotes positive customer service in all dealings internally and externally.

Key Requirements

Bachelor's degree with a concentration in Accounting, plus 1 - 3 years of experience in the accounting field.

  • Accounting/Systems Implementation experience desirable, but not required.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, advanced Excel skills preferred.

Our current reasonable and good faith estimate of the annual salary wage range for this position is approximately $60,000 to $65,000 Financial Accountant I and $75,000 - $85,000 Financial Accountant II based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills and experience, educational background and certifications, performance and qualifications, market demand for the role and other organizational needs.
