Summary: The Cost Accountant is responsible for delivering timely, accurate, and complete inventory valuation and product cost information.  This position plays a key role in maintaining and updating Woodcraft Industries’ inventory system and cost information used to determine product profitability and pricing decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure appropriate inventory valuation and costing of all products in

accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and company policies.

  • Responsible for preparing and completing quarterly standard cost roll

related to changes in raw material costs.

  • Preparation of profitability analysis and review of product margins.
  • Develop and maintain standard costs of finished goods and production

components in ERP system

  • Preparation of profitability analysis and review of product margins.
  • Provide analysis related to lumber cost changes, grade mix usage, and

grade mix availability.

  • Analyze cost accounting data and assist with cycle count / physical

inventories.

  • Analysis of slow moving/obsolete inventory and prepare inventory

reserve calculation.

  • Maintain and improve processes and controls associated with

manufacturing costs and inventory valuation.

  • Ensure validity and accuracy of ERP through analysis, internal audit,

and coordination with inventory control, production and work order processing.

  • Perform monthly accounting closure procedures and deliverables which

includes journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting.

  • Maintain all journals and ledgers used to prepare the monthly

financial statements.

  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of financial transactions and

assists in the research and analysis of general ledger account variances.

  • Prepare and review assigned general ledger account reconciliations and

all supporting schedules.

  • Assist in the completion of month-end, quarter-end and year-end

financial reporting.

  • Back-up others as needed in the finance area to help with workloads

and to ensure work is completed timely and accurately.

  • Assist in preparation of annual budget/plans.
  • Process journal entries as input to accurate and timely financial
  • statements to meet the needs of internal and external management, within bounds
  • of established deadlines and policies, including Sarbanes Oxley controls.
  • Independently perform balance sheet reviews for anomalies and
  • reconcile Balance Sheet accounts on a monthly basis, identifying and clearing
  • all reconciling items.
  • Assist in compliance reviews, with focus on transactional processing,

monitoring master data, and control design.

  • Perform self-audits for peers and provide information on a timely

basis to both internal and external audit for assigned areas.

  • Complete assigned GL Account reconciliations in accordance with GAAP

and internal policy.

  • Ability to take ownership for the subject matter areas and

independently follow up on and resolve related issues

  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 3 or more years of cost accounting experience
  • Proficient will all Microsoft Office products; advanced Microsoft

Excel skills

  • Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • ERP system experience
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and prepare financial

reports and statements

  • Professional written, verbal and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, and attention to

detail

  • Experience in manufacturing accounting and SOX preferred but not

required

  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving capabilities.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 10 lbs at times.
