Job Details: Job Location: Association Office - Olympia, WA, Position Type: Full Time, Salary Range: $28.00 - $30.00Hourly, Job Category: Association, POSITION SUMMARY: The Senior Staff Accountant supports accurate and timely financial operations at the South Sound YMCA. This position performs assigned month-end close activities, processes accounts payable transactions, and supervises one employee whose primary responsibility is childcare billing. In carrying out these responsibilities, the Senior Staff Accountant helps maintain a supportive, positive environment that welcomes and respects all individuals. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Supervise billing employee including assigning work, providing guidance, and reviewing work for accuracy and timeliness. Monitor the accounts payable review queue in SAP Concur; review invoice coding for accuracy, follow up on needed corrections, and prepare and issue checks for approved payments in accordance with established procedures. Post cash receipts and research discrepancies. Assist with month-end and year-end close activities, including preparing and posting assigned journal entries and supporting schedules. Reconcile and analyze assigned general ledger accounts; investigate discrepancies and prepare corrections as needed. Assist with financial statement and statistical reporting and help operations staff understand and review results for their areas. Serve as a resource to staff on financial transactions recorded in operations software, including researching questions and coordinating corrections. Track expenses charged to grants and maintain supporting records of grant-related expenditures. Assist with fixed asset records, including supporting purchase invoices and updating depreciation schedules. Follow established internal controls and accounting procedures; identify and communicate exceptions or opportunities for improvement. Other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the organization. LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES: Critical Thinking & Decision Making Fiscal Management Program/Project Management Qualifications: QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in accounting preferred with two years of accounting experience. Sound knowledge of GAAP accounting principles and practices. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Ability to work independently with attention to detail and accuracy Excellent problem-solving skills and propensity to respond to challenges with possible solutions in a timely manner. Must be highly organized and have the ability to work with confidential matters. Driving between various operating locations required at times. Must have a driving record acceptable to the Y’s insurance provider. A spirit of service and enthusiasm for the mission of the South Sound YMCA and our community WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
