Description
- Saint Mary’s College is seeking a detail-oriented and service-focused Staff
- Accountant to join the Finance team for a one-year limited-term appointment.
- Under the direction of the Assistant Controller, the Staff Accountant will
- support the day-to-day accounting operations of the College by preparing
- accounting worksheets, performing account analysis, assisting with monthly
- closing activities, and providing general support to the Finance team.
- The Staff Accountant will work collaboratively with members of the Finance team
- and budget managers across the College to ensure financial information is
- accurate, timely, and properly recorded. This position provides an excellent
- opportunity for an accounting or finance professional to contribute to the
- College’s financial operations while working in a collaborative and
- service-oriented environment.
- The successful candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, dependable, and
- comfortable managing multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of
- accuracy and professionalism.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a focus in
Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Three to five years of related accounting or finance experience, or recent
college graduate with relevant education and experience.
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage ongoing projects, programs, or
assignments.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to prepare accounting worksheets, reports, and other financial
- information accurately and ensure amounts reconcile to appropriate source
- documentation.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with
students, faculty, staff, and members of the public.
- Ability to provide professional and courteous customer service and project a
positive image of Saint Mary’s College.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work while completing assignments
accurately and in a timely manner.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a higher education, nonprofit, or institutional
finance environment.
- Experience assisting with monthly financial close processes and preparation
of journal entries.
- Experience performing account reconciliations and analysis and identifying
potential adjusting journal entries.
- Experience working with budget managers to review and reallocate expenses.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including experience working with financial
data and spreadsheets.
- Demonstrated ability to learn new financial systems, processes, and
procedures.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of
a collaborative Finance team.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to providing responsive, professional, and
service-oriented support to colleagues across the College.
Essential Job Functions
- Assist the Finance team with monthly closing activities, including
preparation and entry of journal entries.
- Perform account analysis and identify and propose appropriate adjusting
journal entries.
- Prepare and maintain accounting worksheets, reports, reconciliations, and
related financial documentation.
- Work with budget managers to review and facilitate the reallocation of
expenses as needed.
- Assist with various accounting and clerical functions in support of the
Finance team.
- Respond to telephone inquiries in a courteous and professional manner, answer
- questions when appropriate, direct calls to the appropriate individual, or
- take accurate messages.
- Maintain accurate and organized financial records and documentation.
- Complete assigned tasks, projects, and special assignments accurately and
within established timelines.
- Provide professional and courteous service to students, faculty, staff, and
members of the public.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Schedule
Full-time, Monday through Friday, during regular College business hours.
- Contract Term: This is a one-year limited-term position. The appointment will
- conclude at the end of the one-year term unless otherwise extended by the
- College.
Work Authorization
- Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time
- of hire and must not require visa sponsorship from Saint Mary’s College, either
- now or in the future.
