NATURE OF THE WORK - ACCOUNTANT

The Accountant performs professional accounting work at the journey level in support of VVWRA’s financial operations. Key responsibilities include auditing, analyzing, and verifying financial records; preparing financial statements and reports; reconciling general ledger and subsidiary accounts; and supporting the Authority’s annual budget and year-end audit processes.

The position may perform full-cycle Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll functions, as well as assist with capital asset accounting, bank reconciliations, financial analysis, and other special projects. The Accountant works closely with Finance staff and other departments to ensure financial information is accurate, timely, and properly documented.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS - ACCOUNTANT

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of bookkeeping and accounting work experience. Public sector experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of accounting, budgeting, auditing, reconciliation, financial recordkeeping, and financial reporting principles and practices. Candidates should possess strong analytical and organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain accurate financial records, manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and communicate effectively.
  • Possession of a valid State of California Class C Driver’s License.

NATURE OF THE WORK - ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN

The Accounting Technician performs entry-level general accounting work and provides technical and clerical accounting support to professional staff. The position assists with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll; maintains financial accounts and records; assists with reconciliations, financial reports and analyses, audits, and budget data compilation; responds to vendor and departmental inquiries; and supports special projects as needed.

  • Associate’s degree in accounting or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of bookkeeping and accounting work experience. Public sector experience is preferred.
  • Possession of a valid State of California Class C driver’s license.

CLASSIFICATION OF VACANCY: This recruitment is intended to fill one vacancy. Candidates will be considered for the level for which they meet the minimum qualifications. VVWRA may fill the vacancy at the Accountant or Accounting Technician level based on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.
