The Junior/Senior Accountant supports the Corporate Controller in managing the day-to-day accounting functions and ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting. This position will have primary responsibility for month-end close activities, balance sheet and inventory reconciliations, intercompany accounting, journal entries, fixed assets, accruals, and financial analysis. The role will also provide accounting support and oversight to the AP and AR functions.

Position Summary

The Junior/Senior Accountant supports the Corporate Controller in managing the day-to-day accounting functions and ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.

This position will have primary responsibility for month-end close activities, balance sheet and inventory reconciliations, intercompany accounting, journal entries, fixed assets, accruals, and financial analysis. The role will also provide accounting support and oversight to the AP and AR functions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support and help drive the 5-business-day month-end closure.
  • Prepare journal entries, accruals, prepaids, and support schedules.
  • Prepare and review monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Manage inventory accounting and reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
  • Reconcile intercompany accounts between Canadian and U.S. entities.
  • Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation.
  • Ensure AP and AR subledgers reconcile to the general ledger.
  • Provide accounting guidance and support to the AP and AR teams.
  • Review financial results and investigate unusual balances or variances.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, audits, and year-end requirements.
  • Maintain strong accounting documentation and internal controls.
  • Identify opportunities to improve and streamline Finance processes.
  • Work closely with Operations and other departments to resolve accounting issues.
  • Support the Corporate Controller with financial analysis and special projects.
  • Support product costing and margin analysis to ensure accurate inventory valuation, COGS, and product profitability.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong general ledger and month-end close experience.
  • Experience with balance sheet and inventory reconciliations.
  • Manufacturing or distribution accounting experience preferred.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Sage 100 experience is an asset.
  • Experience working with Canadian and U.S. entities is an asset.

  • Provide reliable accounting support to the Corporate Controller and Finance team.
