- Location: Stockton, CA
- Work Arrangement: Onsite, Monday–Friday
Industry: Real Estate / Property Management – Residential & Manufactured Housing Communities
Compensation: $100,000–$120,000 base, depending on experience
Additional Compensation: $10,000 retention bonus after one year, plus annual bonus potential
Trueline is looking for a hands-on Property Accountant to join our growing accounting team in Stockton, CA.
This is an opportunity for an accountant who enjoys being close to the day-to-day accounting work and wants to take ownership within a large, multi-entity real estate environment. Our portfolio includes more than 100 residential and manufactured housing communities/entities across the West Coast, creating an accounting environment that is fast-paced, detailed, and highly transactional.
This is not a purely analytical or high-level financial reporting position. The Property Accountant will be actively involved in reconciliations, journal entries, general ledger activity, AP/AR-related accounting, month-end close, financial reporting, and resolving discrepancies across assigned properties.
The right person is someone who enjoys digging into the numbers, figuring out why something doesn't reconcile, and making sure the books are accurate.
What You'll Do
- Manage accounting responsibilities for an assigned portfolio of properties/entities
- Perform monthly bank, balance sheet, and general ledger reconciliations
- Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, adjustments, and other month-end entries
- Support and participate in the monthly close process
- Review general ledger activity and research and resolve discrepancies
- Support accounts payable and accounts receivable activity in a high-volume environment
- Prepare and review property-level financial statements and supporting schedules
- Analyze account and financial statement variances and investigate unusual activity
- Maintain accurate accounting records across multiple entities
Work closely with property operations, AP/AR, accounting leadership, and other internal teams to resolve accounting issues
Assist with budgeting, reporting, audit support, and other accounting projects as needed
Help improve accounting processes and controls as the portfolio and organization continue to grow
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience preferred
- Strong hands-on general ledger and month-end close experience
- Experience preparing journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
- Experience preparing or supporting monthly financial statements
- Strong understanding of GAAP and fundamental accounting principles
- Comfortable working with a high volume of transactions, accounts, and/or entities
Experience managing multiple sets of books, properties, locations, clients, or business entities is strongly preferred
Property accounting, real estate, property management, construction, or other multi-entity accounting experience is a plus
Strong AP and AR accounting knowledge
- Ability to research discrepancies and independently work through reconciliation issues
- Strong Excel skills and comfort learning new accounting systems
- QuickBooks or similar accounting software experience is helpful
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred
Who Will Do Well Here
We're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys the hands-on side of accounting.
You may be a great fit if you're currently managing the books for multiple properties, clients, locations, or entities and enjoy taking responsibility for the accuracy of those accounts. You should be comfortable moving between detailed transactional accounting and month-end reporting rather than looking exclusively for a strategic, FP&A, or management-focused position.
You'll also need to be comfortable working in an environment where priorities can move quickly and where communication, flexibility, and a willingness to jump in are important.
Why Join Us?
Growth: Join a growing real estate organization with opportunities to expand your responsibilities over time
Complexity: Gain exposure to a large, multi-entity property portfolio
Ownership: Take meaningful responsibility for your assigned properties and accounting processes
Visibility: Work closely with experienced accounting and finance leadership
Team Environment: Join a collaborative, down-to-earth team where people are encouraged to ask questions and solve problems
Long-Term Opportunity: Opportunity to grow as the accounting function and property portfolio continue to evolve
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary of approximately $100,000–$120,000, depending on experience
- $10,000 retention bonus after one year
- Annual bonus potential
- Medical benefits
- 401(k)
Paid time off
This position is fully onsite in Stockton, CA, Monday through Friday. Candidates should be comfortable with the onsite schedule before applying.
If you're a hands-on accountant who enjoys owning the details, solving problems, and working across multiple properties or entities, we'd love to hear from you.
