  • At Staples, our Finance team plays a critical role in supporting the business
  • through accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and data-driven
  • decision making. As a Sr Accountant I, you will be a key contributor to the
  • month-end close process, financial statement preparation, and accounting
  • operations that support our business. In this role, you will collaborate across
  • departments, improve accounting processes, and help ensure the accuracy and
  • integrity of financial results. This is an excellent opportunity for an

What you'll be doing

  • Prepare and post monthly journal entries in accordance with Generally

Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

  • Support the month-end close process while maintaining an efficient two-day

close timeline.

  • Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations and analyze account activity to

ensure accuracy and completeness.

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to develop and maintain accounting

processes for balance sheet accounts.

  • Ensure appropriate financial controls are established and maintained across

supported accounting areas.

  • Assist with internal and external audit requests by gathering documentation

and providing accounting support.

  • Support financial reporting activities that contribute to the preparation of

company financial statements.

  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, increase efficiency,

and enhance data accuracy.

  • Help implement monitoring and systematic controls that strengthen financial

integrity and compliance.

  • Collaborate with business partners to provide insights and support informed

business decision-making.

What's needed - Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of accounting, finance, or related professional experience.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly motivated with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

What's needed - Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA or active CPA candidate.
  • Experience with financial analysis and budgeting.
  • Previous accounting experience within a corporate environment.
  • Experience supporting financial reporting, month-end close, or audit

processes.

  • Demonstrated experience driving process improvements and strengthening

internal controls.
