Job Duties
- Performs professional level work of moderate difficulty requiring the
- application of accounting theory and principles. Characteristic duties: develop
- methods of recording fiscal transactions, allocate funds, update and maintain
- accounting systems, independently prepare financial statements/reports/cost
- analyses, and develop and present budgets and other financial information for
- review. Other major duties: all functions of compensation accounting including
- assuring timely processing of payrolls, distribution of checks, preparing
- federal/state tax reporting, fringe benefits and premium conversion. May
- supervise or lead fiscal paraprofessionals and/or other support personnel.
- This is a restricted position, which is solely funded by the DWSRF- 4% Set aside
- for October 2026 period ending 2028-09-29. The availability of funding is
- scheduled for review annually and periodically thereafter. Continued employment
- is contingent on the continued availability of funds.
- The Virginia Department of Health offers 12 paid holidays, medical, dental,
- vision and life insurance, retirement plans (including 401a Cash Match and 457
- Deferred Compensation Plan) as well as sick, family/personal, and annual leave.
Minimum Qualifications
- Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices
including cost accounting.
- Knowledge of the use of data processing techniques in maintaining accounting
records.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- Demonstrated ability to apply and adapt established accounting methods to a
variety of financial transactions and records and multiple funding streams.
- Demonstrated ability to design and compile financial reports and statements.
