The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the full spectrum of accounting functions, including accounts payable, reconciliations, audits, and financial reporting. This role also handles vendor payments, purchase order tracking, credit card reconciliations, and assists with budget oversight and internal control systems. The position requires strong attention to detail, a solid understanding of accounting principles, and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments to ensure timely and compliant financial operations.

Qualifications

  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred; Associate’s degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent combination of education and experience

Certifications & Licenses

  • NA

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years in Accounting or Finance. Experience in non-profit, FQHC, or grants accounting preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, Excel (including PivotTables and VLOOKUP), and accounting software.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite. Analytical, organized, detail-oriented, and capable of handling multiple priorities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the CFO in providing the CEO and leadership with timely financial information.
  • Reconcile accounts receivable and income regularly.
  • Maintain and post receipts from mail and in-house collections into the general ledger.
  • Participate in annual audit and prepare Schedule of Federal Awards.
  • Develop and monitor internal controls including reviewing bank balances, A/P status, and depreciation schedules.
  • Conduct periodic cost studies.
  • Prepare and review agency cost reports and support grant reporting requirements.
  • Process vendor invoices and employee reimbursements accurately and in compliance with policies.
  • Prepare and process check requests and obtain signatures for AP checks.
  • Maintain accurate purchase and capital expenditure records.
  • Reconcile credit card accounts monthly and ensure accurate allocations.
  • Serve as backup for bank deposits and remote deposit processing.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with departments, vendors, and finance staff.
  • Maintain organized records for audit readiness and compliance.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned to support organizational goals.

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Must be able and comfortable working in a variety of settings including, but not limited to clinical environments and office spaces.
  • Must be able to work nights and weekends as departmental needs arise.
