Duties are primarily relative to general accounting, accounts payable and receivable, and payroll; however, other areas are assigned on as needed basis.

JOB SUMMARY

The Accountant III is a highly technical, fully skilled accounting position that involves verifying, analyzing, and reporting of financial transactions for the City. Working in a team environment, this position plans, coordinates, and performs various fiscal and accounting functions of the City. Duties are primarily relative to general accounting, accounts payable and receivable, and payroll; however, other areas are assigned on as needed basis.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and 5 years of Accounting experience required. Governmental Accounting experience is preferred.

Special Requirements

Analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills required. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred. Certified Government Finance Officer (CGFO) a plus. 5 years of experience with Microsoft Office Products including MS Word and MS Excel required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of automated financial management software packages.
  • Knowledge of governmental accounting principles and practices.
  • Skill in mathematics, analyzing, and organization.

Ability to clearly and effectively communicate both orally and in writing, including the proper use of grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, and good public speaking.

  • Ability to reconcile spreadsheets and General Ledger accounts to source documents.
  • Ability to analyze, identify and resolve variances.

Ability to exercise good judgment, make competent decisions, handle multiple projects, prioritize and organize work assignments, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure and stress.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is sedentary and requires the ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, fingering, hearing, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motions.
