Description

The Financial Analyst supports Michels Canada operations by delivering financial reporting, forecasting, budgeting, and performance analysis that drive informed business decisions. This role partners closely with Operations, Project Controls, Finance, and other business stakeholders to support project performance, monitor key financial metrics, and provide actionable insights that contribute to operational success.

The ideal candidate is highly analytical, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, project-based environment.

Responsibilities

Maintain and promote a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers. Follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.

Prepare and maintain financial and operational reporting that supports informed business decision-making.

Analyze financial and operational performance metrics, identify trends, and provide recommendations to improve business performance.

Support budgeting, forecasting, long-range planning, and variance analysis activities across operations and projects.

Partner with Operations, Project Controls, and other stakeholders to support project financial performance and reporting.

Assist with project accounting activities, including job setup, journal entries, accruals, billings, and financial analysis.

Monitor project performance through analysis of revenue, costs, gross margin, backlog, cash flow, and cost-to-complete forecasts.

Analyze working capital performance, including accounts receivable, collections, billings, and project cash flow forecasts.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify process improvements, reporting enhancements, and operational efficiencies.

Support ERP, reporting, and finance transformation initiatives that improve data quality, automation, and business performance.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline.

3-6 years of experience in financial planning and analysis (FP&A), operational finance, project finance, accounting, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including financial modelling, forecasting, reporting, and data analysis.

Experience working with ERP systems and reporting tools such as Power BI, SAP, Tableau, or similar platforms.

Strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, variance analysis, and performance measurement.

Experience supporting project-based operations and project financial management, including work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, estimate-at-completion (EAC) forecasting, cost-to-complete analysis, and cash flow forecasting.

Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate financial and operational data into meaningful business insights.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships across Finance, Operations, Project Controls, and other business functions.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced, project-based environment.

Experience in construction, infrastructure, energy, industrial, or other project-based industries will be considered an asset.

CPA designation, or progress toward obtaining a CPA designation, will be considered an asset.
