PURPOSE OF JOB

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure all duties and responsibilities are completed as per NEXT’s Standard Operating Procedures:
- Analyze monthly financial results against budget, prior year, forecast, and historical trends; investigate unusual results, identify errors and performance drivers, and explain significant variances.
- Prepare management reporting packages, financial and operational metrics, and performance dashboards.
- Develop and maintain financial models, Power BI dashboards, and other reporting tools that improve visibility into business performance.
- Assist with annual budgets, forecasts, scenario analysis, and long-term financial planning.
- Prepare ad hoc financial and operational analysis to support management decision-making.
- Participate in the month-end close and financial reporting process, including financial statement preparation, selected journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules, as required.
- Assist with year-end audit preparation and auditor requests.
- Perform other related responsibilities and projects as assigned.

RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS
- KNOWLEDGE/SKILL/ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to consistently model NEXT’s core values and character expectations listed above
- Strong understanding of financial accounting and ASPE.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze financial results, investigate variances, identify issues, and translate detailed financial data into clear, decision-ready information.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including financial modelling and the development of repeatable reporting tools.
- Experience developing reports and dashboards in Power BI.
- Strong initiative and the ability to independently identify problems, investigate underlying causes, and recommend solutions.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize competing responsibilities and meet strict deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality.
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) is required or near completion
- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant working experience in financial accounting or financial analysis; experience in the distribution industry is considered an asset.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORKING CONDITIONS
- This position requires prolonged periods of working at a computer and using a keyboard and mouse.
