Serves as the subject matter expert for grant budgets and plays a key role in preparing the annual budget, cost reports, and financial audits. Monitors budget-to-actual performance, identifies and explains significant variances, and develops reports and analyses that support management decision-making. Also performs professional accounting duties, including general ledger reconciliations and month-end journal entries. Work requires considerable independent judgment and initiative. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Acts as the subject matter expert for grant budgets. Maintains and tracks grant budgets, monitoring spending to ensure funds are fully and appropriately utilized. Communicates significant grant budget variances to the leadership team. Assists with the analysis and preparation of the annual agency budget. Prepares quarterly budget reports for review with leadership and highlights significant variances. Assists with the analysis and preparation of annual cost reports. Supports the annual financial audit by preparing schedules and supporting documentation as requested. Completes ad hoc analysis as needed for the CFO and Controller. Reconciles general ledger account balances. Prepares and records month-end journal entries. Issues monthly invoices and prepares associated journal entries. Creates and documents procedures for new tasks and responsibilities. Identifies opportunities for improvement and enhances existing processes as needed. Qualifications: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) required, knowledge of governmental accounting standards (GASB) preferred. Experience in budgeting practices, and financial reporting; knowledge of grant accounting preferred. Ability to interpret and apply accounting theory; to interpret laws, regulations, and grant requirements; to work accurately with numerical detail; to analyze, consolidate, and interpret financial data; to identify trends and variances; and to communicate findings effectively. Advanced proficiency in Excel and proficiency with accounting software. Experience with modern dashboard tools such as Tableau or Power BI preferred. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Demonstrated willingness to learn new skills, take on new responsibilities, and grow professionally. REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, and a minimum of 2 years of recent, progressive experience in accounting and financial analysis in a professional setting. REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS A valid Texas Driver License and good driving record is required along with a copy of a valid auto insurance card. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, lift 25 pounds, sit for an extended period, and reach overhead.
