About the Role, Mission or Department Overview

We are looking for a dynamic and hands-on HR Generalist to partner directly with our Advertising, Marketing, Communications, Licensing, Partnerships, Wirecutter, and Events departments and HRBP team. Reporting to the Senior Manager, HR Business Partner you will be a primary contact for daily operational HR issues, processes, and coordinating projects for our client groups.

You will balance business-aligned strategic support with rigorous operational execution. You will manage critical operational transactions—including Workday data integrity, position management, auditing, and reporting—to ensure seamless HR operations across all assigned departments. Additionally, you will partner with leadership and HR Centers of Excellence (COEs) on core talent programs. You will operate on a hybrid model requiring 3 days per week in our New York City office.

Responsibilities

Partner with HRBPs, business leadership, cross-functional partners, and COEs (Total Rewards, Talent Acquisition, Talent Management, ER, Legal, and Labor) to support various people initiatives, e.g. end-to-end performance management, goal setting, and annual compensation cycles.

Provide direct guidance to employees and line managers on HR policy interpretation, performance and employee relations inquiries, and everyday workplace solutions.

Manage position opening and reconciliation against department hiring forecasts in collaboration with hiring managers, Finance, and Talent Acquisition.

Maintain strict data integrity within Workday by processing transactions (promotions, manager changes, cost center updates, work location changes) and conducting regular audits.

Pull reports and reconcile data sets as requested (rosters, anniversaries, attendance), shout outs.

Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.

Basic Qualifications

2 or more years of experience as an HR Generalist supporting matrixed departments.

Technical proficiency in using a cloud-based HRIS such as Workday (position management, transactions, and reporting).

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and professional HR accreditation (e.g., Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional, Professional in Human Resources).

Outstanding capabilities in project management and organizational planning.

Demonstrated history of establishing relationships and offering practical, solutions-focused guidance.

For roles in the U.S., dependent on your role, you may be eligible for variable pay, such as an annual bonus and restricted stock.
