Why This Role Exists
West Texas businesses are making technology decisions right now - and many of them are overpaying for service from providers who don't know their name. AMA TechTel has been serving this market for 25+ years with a full suite of business technology solutions: dedicated fiber, managed IT, network security, VoIP, and cloud backup. We have the product and the reputation. We need the person who can put it in front of the right buyers.
This isn't a role where someone hands you a warm list. You'll own a territory, build your pipeline from the ground up, and earn the business yourself.
Who We're Actually Looking For
Someone who goes and gets it - who builds their own pipeline, knocks on doors when that's what it takes, and doesn't need a warm list to get started. If you've carried a B2B territory, built a book of business from scratch, and know what it feels like to prospect your way out of an empty month, keep reading.
If your sales background is primarily retail, inbound, or inside sales, this role will be a steep climb. We want to be upfront about that so you can make the right call for yourself.
What You'll Do
Prospect and close. Build your own pipeline through net-new outreach, referrals, and cold outreach - then own the deal from first conversation to signed contract.
Learn the portfolio well enough to diagnose a business's technology needs and propose a solution that fits. You don't need to be an engineer - you need to ask the right questions.
Represent and retain. Show up at events, prospect meetings, and in the community. Keep your accounts close - serve them well and they'll refer you.
Stay organized. Every conversation, proposal, and follow-up lives in the CRM. Non-negotiable.
What We Need From You
Required
3+ years of B2B outside sales experience - territory-based, field-based, carrying a quota
Proven track record of prospecting and closing net-new business (not just managing existing accounts)
Comfortable with the full sales cycle: cold outreach → discovery → proposal → negotiation → close
Strong communicator - written, verbal, and in a room full of skeptical business owners
Self-directed - you manage your own calendar, pipeline, and activity. No one will be scheduling your day for you.
Valid Texas driver's license and a driving record that won't scare our insurance carrier
Strongly Preferred
- Experience selling Managed IT, telecom, or technology solutions to businesses
- Familiarity with consultative or solution-based selling methodologies
Understanding of common IT environments - networks, VoIP, cloud backup, security - enough to have a credible conversation
Working knowledge of compliance standards relevant to local industries (HIPAA for healthcare, PCI-DSS for retail)
Bilingual - English/Spanish. West Texas businesses need someone who can show up in both languages. This is a real edge.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience
