THE OPPORTUNITY

Walnut Hill Landscape Company is looking for an Account Manager who can connect excellent customer service with disciplined production and profitable growth. In this role, you will own the health of an assigned portfolio of landscape management accounts and serve as the link between clients, field teams, purchasing, finance, and leadership.

This is a strong fit for a landscape professional who enjoys building trust with customers, understands horticultural quality, communicates clearly, and takes pride in helping teams deliver what they promised.

WHAT YOU WILL OWN

  • CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS AND SERVICE
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned landscape management clients.
  • Respond to phone calls and other communications according to the 10–5 Rule.
  • Build professional, responsive relationships with clients and industry partners.
  • Lead or facilitate timely resolution of client concerns.
  • Communicate service dates and schedule changes proactively.
  • Follow through on customer commitments and document outcomes.
  • Deliver the small professional courtesies that protect the client experience—closing gates, returning newspapers to the front door, and removing stray debris or trash.

SALES AND PROFITABLE PRODUCTION

  • Renew the annual portfolio of service contracts with a goal of 95% retention or higher.
  • Grow the annual contract portfolio by 10% or more in the first year.
  • Meet or exceed enhancement sales goals established with the Division Manager.
  • Create, track, and manage estimates through the full process: estimate, sale, schedule, perform, close, bill, and collect.
  • Review pricing with the Division Manager for approval.
  • Partner with the Field Manager to keep jobs organized, properly staffed, supplied, and on standard.
  • Manage labor budgets closely, including overtime hours.
  • Protect contracted scope and secure customer approval before additional work begins.
  • Review account revenue, labor, materials, and profitability with the Division Manager.

IPM AND QUALITY CONTROL

  • Conduct routine site visits to inspect the quality of Walnut Hill and subcontractor services.
  • Identify and resolve pest, disease, damage, and service-quality issues.
  • Document concerns and enhancement opportunities.
  • Hold the work to Walnut Hill’s standard for craftsmanship, appearance, and detail.

TEAM DEVELOPMENT AND SAFETY

  • Help develop team members through training, mentoring, coaching, and accountability.
  • Partner with the Division Manager on health and safety functions.
  • Follow company policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
  • File accident and injury reports, participate in investigations, and report findings to the Division Manager and Director of Administration.
  • Ensure team members have and use appropriate personal protective equipment and uniforms.
  • Lead by example in professionalism, communication, and care for people.

PURCHASING, DELIVERIES, AND MATERIALS

  • Purchase materials not obtained by the Purchaser, using authorized purchase orders.
  • Schedule and coordinate material deliveries and pickups.
  • Job-cost purchases accurately and provide invoices and purchase orders to the Division Manager.
  • Track inventory items used on jobsites.
  • Assist with the division budget for fleet, equipment, and tools, and manage purchasing accordingly.

SNOW AND ICE MANAGEMENT

  • Assist with planning and delivering snow and ice management services efficiently and on time.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

  • Client relationships are professional, responsive, and built for long-term retention.
  • Service contracts, enhancement work, and account revenue meet agreed goals.
  • Jobs reflect targeted profit margins and disciplined labor and material control.
  • Estimates, schedules, customer commitments, and billing handoffs are accurate and current.
  • Site visits identify quality issues and opportunities early, before they become client problems.
  • Team members receive clear direction, coaching, and a consistent safety standard.
  • Performance is reviewed against job profitability, budget versus actual results, estimate versus actual results, software proficiency, and biannual performance reviews.

THE PERSON WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • You are someone who:
  • Builds trust quickly and communicates with confidence, courtesy, and clarity.
  • Notices details others miss and follows through without being chased.
  • Thinks in systems, solves problems, and keeps commitments visible.
  • Can move comfortably between a client conversation, a jobsite, a budget, and a field team.
  • Brings strong organization, time management, and analytical judgment.
  • Is comfortable with technology and learns new systems quickly.
  • Understands horticultural methods and the services delivered by a landscape management team.
  • Is proactive, flexible, and able to manage multiple priorities with limited supervision.
  • Enjoys teaching, mentoring, and raising the standard through example.
  • Is committed to teamwork and relationships, professionalism and integrity, image, and attention to quality and detail.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least three years of green-industry experience; or
  • Green-industry certification and 2 years experience as a qualified industry professional.
  • Strong keyboard and data-entry skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to learn and use Walnut Hill’s budgeting, estimating, electronic timekeeping, and related business software.
