- The Senior Business Analyst, Commercial is a senior analytical role within SSA
- Marine’s evolving commercial capability and the dedicated owner of the
- Contracting, Customer Relationship Management & Analytics strategy; Commercial
- Insights, Analytics & Data Governance. The position exists to create enterprise
- visibility into commercial performance through governed reporting, analytics,
- benchmarking, and data stewardship.
- Operating at the intersection of Commercial, Finance, Operations, and IT, the
- Sr. Business Analyst translates operational, contractual, customer, and market
- data into clear, decision-useful insight that supports pricing, contracting,
- customer governance, and budget planning across the container portfolio. The
- role moves the Division from manual, fragmented reporting toward a governed,
- self-service analytics environment featuring compelling visualization and, over
- time, predictive insight. Working closely with the Sr. Director and commercial
- peers, the role sets reporting standards, owns the Power BI inventory and
- self-service roadmap, sustains commercial data quality, and represents the
- Container Division in commercial data governance — enabling disciplined,
- data-driven commercial execution in support of the Division’s EBITDA North Star.
Essential Responsibilities
- Commercial Performance Reporting & Executive Insights
- Own recurring monthly commercial performance reporting spanning volume,
revenue, EBITDA, pricing, customer, terminal, and variance themes.
- Translate reporting outputs into executive-ready narratives — what changed,
- what is driving it, what it means, and recommended actions — moving from pull
- reporting to a governed monthly push-insight cadence.
- Complete ad hoc analyses to support negotiations, renewals, pricing, and
strategic decisions on demand.
Benchmarking & Comparative Performance
- Design and maintain a standard benchmarking framework comparing performance
across terminals, customers, carriers, and key operating metrics.
- Deliver quarterly comparative analyses that surface margin gaps, pricing
- opportunities, and best practices, converting findings into recommendations
- that inform pricing, contract strategy, and revenue optimization.
Governed Reporting Ecosystem & Self-Service Analytics
- Build and maintain the commercial reporting catalog and Power BI inventory,
- establishing ownership, standards, and version control, and reducing
- duplication by retiring redundant legacy reports.
- Develop and advance the enterprise self-service analytics roadmap —
- standardized, reusable dashboards, compelling visualization, and progression
- toward predictive insight.
Commercial Data Governance & Stewardship
- Define and document critical commercial data elements and standard
- definitions; centralize commercial information to achieve a single source of
- truth and maintain an active data stewardship model.
- Support data compilation, master data techniques, and control activities;
- safeguard data quality across contract, customer, operational, and financial
- datasets.
- Support data quality and requirements for Ironclad, the Business Rating
- Engine (BRE), CRM, and enterprise reporting; represent the Container Division
- in enterprise data governance forums and the Data Leads Council.
Commercial Data Journey Ownership
- Own the Commercial Data Journey, advancing the Division along the Commercial
- Intelligence Maturity Path: (1) Expand Visibility across all terminals; (2)
- create a Single Commercial Information Environment; (3) Standardize & Govern
- data definitions and metrics; (4) Enable Commercial Intelligence supporting
- pricing, customer governance, strategic account planning, and enterprise
- decision-making.
Tools, Enablement & Cross-Functional Decision Support
- Serve as power user and business owner of commercial dashboards, reporting
- tools, and data models (e.g., Power BI); drive automation and standardization
- and partner with IT and Finance to improve data accessibility.
- Determine resource requirements and costs to optimize commercial reporting
- processes and systems; build and validate business cases for reporting and
- analytics investments.
- Act as a connective analytical partner across Commercial, Finance,
- Operations, and IT; provide structured analysis for budget planning, pricing,
- and strategy; and mentor intern and junior analytical talent to sustain the
- SSA talent pipeline.
Adoption, Change Management & Enablement
- Lead adoption and change management for new reporting standards, governed
- dashboards, and self-service analytics capabilities across the commercial
- teams.
- Train and coach commercial users on self-service dashboards, reporting
- standards, and data definitions using both formal and informal methods;
- gather feedback to drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Economics, Data Science, Supply
Chain, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- 4+ years of experience in commercial, financial, or data analysis, including
delivery of recurring management reporting.
- Strong data structuring capability — proven ability to organize, model, and
- standardize disparate, fragmented data into clean, reliable, decision-ready
- structures.
- Demonstrated analytical prowess — rigorous, hypothesis-driven analysis that
turns complex data into clear insight and recommendations.
- Strong data visualization acumen — hands-on mastery of Power BI (and Excel)
to build compelling, intuitive, executive-ready visuals and dashboards.
- Strong communication and systems-thinking skills; ability to lead reporting
- standards and data governance through influence. Fluency in English (written
- and verbal).
- Ability to travel (less than 10%) to customer sites, industry events, and SSA
Marine locations may be required.

Preferred Qualifications
- 6–8+ years of relevant analytical experience, ideally in complex,
- asset-intensive, or customer-driven organizations (maritime, terminals,
- logistics, or infrastructure a plus).
- Experience establishing reporting catalogs, data definitions, or data
stewardship/governance models; change leadership experience.
- Knowledge of SQL, cloud data platforms, and/or ERP systems; familiarity with
- contract, pricing, billing, or ERP data and how commercial terms translate
- into revenue.
- Experience working across geographies and multicultural environments; Spanish
proficiency a plus.
Work environment
- Office environment; exposure to computer screens
- Climate-controlled office environment, with exposure to computer screens and
moderate noise levels typical of an office setting.
- Minimal travel (less than 10%) to customer sites, industry events, and SSA
Marine locations may be required.
Salary Range: $95,000-120,000 per year
- The posted compensation range is based on the applicable geographic market for
- the position and may vary depending on factors such as related experience and
- skill set. Final compensation will be determined based on these items and other
- relevant factors.
