About the Role
The Business Data Analyst is an independent contributor on Security Benefit's Data Intelligence team within the Director, Data Analysis & Integration portfolio. This role independently performs data analysis, develops reports and dashboards, documents business and data requirements, and coordinates data quality resolution across assigned business domains. The Business Data Analyst works with minimal day-to-day direction on standard analytical cases, exercises sound judgment within established frameworks, and serves as a reliable analytical partner for business stakeholders. This role operates within Security Benefit's ELT data architecture — bridging the data platform (Extract & Load) and business consumption layers — and contributes to the delivery of data products supporting the organization's retirement services, annuities, and investment businesses.
The Business Data Analyst position reports to the Director, Data Analysis & Integration and can be based out of our home office in Topeka, Kansas, or remotely for the right candidate. We work a hybrid schedule, offering flexibility to work both remotely and on-site.
Independently perform business and data requirements analysis for assigned initiatives — gather requirements from stakeholders, document data flows, and develop functional and data specifications
Develop and maintain reports, dashboards, and data summaries using established analytics and visualization platforms (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent); ensure outputs meet business quality standards
Write and execute data queries to extract, validate, and analyze data from the enterprise data platform (e.g., Snowflake, cloud data warehouse); apply profiling techniques to assess data fitness for use
Serve as liaison between business and technical teams — translate business requirements into data specifications and communicate data constraints and solutions back to business partners
Perform data quality assessment activities including source data profiling, anomaly identification, and coordination of remediation with Data Engineering (ELT pipeline owners)
Develop data mapping documentation, traceability matrices, and source-to-target specifications for assigned data products
Support testing activities including preparation of test cases, execution of system and UAT test scripts, logging defects, and contributing to Testing Summary Reports
Maintain program documentation in compliance with corporate data governance standards; participate in data stewardship activities for assigned domains
Contribute to continuous improvement of team analytical processes, templates, and standards under direction of senior colleagues
What We’re Looking For
Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
2–4 years of experience in business data analysis, data reporting, or a closely related analytical role
Solid proficiency in data querying tools (e.g., SQL, Snowflake) including writing queries, joins, aggregations, and data profiling techniques
Experience developing reports and dashboards using business intelligence and visualization platforms (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent)
Familiarity with data warehouse concepts and ELT architecture patterns; experience working within a cloud data platform environment preferred
Experience gathering and documenting business requirements including data flow diagrams, functional specifications, and source-to-target mappings
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to investigate data issues and communicate findings clearly
Retirement services, annuities, mutual funds, or financial services industry experience preferred
