Uncle Bill's Pet Center is looking for a hands-on Marketing Manager to lead and help shape the next generation of our marketing department.
This isn't a position where you'll spend your day managing an outside agency or simply maintaining an existing marketing calendar. We're looking for someone who enjoys both the creative and operational sides of marketing - someone who can develop an idea, turn it into great customer-facing content, and make sure it gets executed across our stores and digital channels.
We're a locally owned pet retailer with multiple Indiana locations, and animals are a major part of who we are. That creates a fun opportunity for the right marketer: puppies, pets, products, promotions, events and our stores provide a constant stream of content to work with.
We're also entering an exciting period of change. We're launching a new Shopify website, bringing more of our digital marketing and e-commerce content in-house, and looking for someone who can help us modernize how we connect with our customers.
What You'll Do
You'll take ownership of the day-to-day marketing function while working closely with company leadership and, as the department grows, an additional full-time marketing team member.
Responsibilities will include
Plan and execute monthly sales and promotional campaigns.
Work with vendors to identify promotional opportunities, special offers, co-op programs and other marketing opportunities.
Coordinate promotional pricing, sale materials, signage and communication with our stores.
Manage and improve our social media presence and create content appropriate for today's platforms.
Create engaging photo, video and written content featuring our animals, products, stores and employees.
Photograph puppies and other animals and turn those photos and videos into engaging customer-facing content.
Help maintain and merchandise our new Shopify website, including product imagery, descriptions, promotions and other customer-facing content.
Plan and execute email marketing and loyalty/customer marketing initiatives.
Manage Google Business Profiles and assist with online reputation and customer-review initiatives.
- Coordinate store events, adoption events, community outreach and sponsorships.
- Develop seasonal and holiday campaigns.
- Create or coordinate graphic design for digital and in-store marketing.
- Coordinate vendor end cap promotions and other in-store marketing programs.
- Support paid digital advertising, including Google and Meta campaigns.
Track marketing performance and help us better understand what is actually driving customer engagement and sales.
Look critically at existing marketing practices and help us determine what should be improved, automated, replaced or eliminated.
Who We're Looking For
We're less interested in finding someone who has spent their entire career doing things one particular way and more interested in finding someone who is creative, capable, curious and willing to evolve.
The right person should
Have professional marketing, advertising, social media, communications or related experience.
Have a strong working knowledge of today's major social media platforms and understand how people consume and engage with content on them.
Have strong creative and visual instincts.
Be comfortable creating warm, fun and emotionally engaging content - especially involving animals.
Be comfortable with photography and video and understand what makes effective short-form digital content.
Be able to write clear, engaging customer-facing copy.
Be organized enough to manage recurring monthly promotions while simultaneously handling digital and creative projects.
Be comfortable learning new software, platforms and marketing technology.
Be open to using modern tools, including AI and automation, where they can improve productivity or results.
Be willing to measure results and adjust based on what works rather than simply repeating what has always been done.
Be comfortable working in a small department where leadership also means rolling up your sleeves and doing the work.
Experience with retail marketing, Shopify/e-commerce, email marketing, paid digital advertising, graphic design, photography/video, or pet-related businesses would be valuable, but we don't expect one candidate to be an expert in every area.
Most importantly, we're looking for someone who can take ownership of the marketing function and recognize where their own strengths end. We'll be building a second full-time marketing position around the skills that best complement our Marketing Manager.
Why This Role Is Different
- This is an opportunity to do more than inherit an established marketing playbook.
- You'll have the opportunity to help us rethink it.
We have multiple retail locations, an established customer base, long-standing vendor relationships, a loyalty program, a new e-commerce platform and - perhaps most importantly for a marketer - a business full of animals and stories people genuinely enjoy seeing.
We're looking for someone who sees the possibilities in that.
Compensation
- Compensation will be based on experience and capabilities.
- Full-time position.
