AAA Oregon/Idaho is looking for a Senior Accountant to join our Accounting team at our administrative headquarters in downtown Portland! The Senior Accountant is responsible for performing advanced accounting functions, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records, and supporting the timely completion of monthly and annual financial reporting. This position serves as a subject matter expert within the Accounting Department and plays a key role in account reconciliations, journal entries, month-end close activities, audit support, financial analysis, and process improvement initiatives.

AAA Oregon/Idaho is looking for a Senior Accountant to join our Accounting team at our administrative headquarters in downtown Portland!

The Senior Accountant is responsible for performing advanced accounting functions, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records, and supporting the timely completion of monthly and annual financial reporting. This position serves as a subject matter expert within the Accounting Department and plays a key role in account reconciliations, journal entries, month-end close activities, audit support, financial analysis, and process improvement initiatives.

The Senior Accountant works independently on complex accounting matters, provides guidance and training to less experienced team members, and partners with department leaders to support organizational objectives.

  • This position requires onsite presence at our Portland Administration office Monday-Friday.*

Essential Functions

  • Prepare, review, and post complex journal entries.
  • Perform and review balance sheet reconciliations for accuracy and completeness.
  • Analyze financial activity and investigate variances, discrepancies, and unusual transactions.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements and supporting workpapers.
  • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and organizational accounting policies.

Desired Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 4 years of accounting experience (corporate, non-profit or public accounting).
  • Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), excel knowledge (vlookup, pivot tables, power queries, etc).
  • Microsoft Great Plains experience preferred but not required.
