About the role
We want a revenue accountant who is ready for a bigger seat. This is not a reconciliation job. You will help manage revenue recognition across a business that mixes recurring SaaS, resold software, maintenance renewals, professional services and scanning, mostly under government contracts. You will sit between Sales Operations, billing and the close, and you will be the person who knows how every deal should be booked and why. This role will be hybrid after training, with weekly in office time.
What you'll do
Revenue recognition
- Review every sales order before it books. Confirm the contract, pricing and terms support how we recognize it, then set up agreements and projects correctly in ConnectWise.
- Maintain the deferred revenue and unbilled schedules and tie them to the general ledger every month.
- Write and maintain accounting memos for new deal structures, new products and acquired revenue streams.
- Help manage all monthly revenue recognition and judgement calls to ensure ASC 606 compliance.
Partnering with Sales
- Be the go-to for Sales Operations and sales leaders on how a deal should be structured. Before it is signed, not after.
- Flag terms that create revenue risk, such as acceptance clauses, non-appropriation and termination for convenience language, and nonstandard payment terms.
- Help set quote-to-cash standards and train Sales Operations on them.
Close, reporting, and audit
- Own the revenue and deferred revenue pieces of the month-end close: entries, reconciliations and flux analysis. Help us close faster and cleaner.
- Build revenue reporting for leadership, our board and our lenders: revenue by stream, recurring revenue, renewals and churn, and bookings to billings to revenue bridges.
- Support the revenue section of the annual audit. Prepare the support, answer the auditors, and close out findings.
- Reconcile other balance sheet accounts, help manage Ramp (our expense tool) and pitch in across the close as needed.
Systems and process
- Become our expert on the ConnectWise to ERP integration. Find where it breaks and fix it.
- Push automation in revenue and billing so we spend less time on manual entries and more time on analysis.
- Document revenue policies, procedures, and controls.
What does success look like in year one?
- New orders are reviewed and set up right the first time.
- Revenue schedules reconcile to the ledger every month without rework.
- Audit testing on revenue closes with no surprises.
- Sales Operations trust and support before a deal is signed.
- At least one revenue or billing process has moved from manual to automated.
Where this goes
We are building a finance team for the next stage of the company.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting (required).
- CPA, or actively working toward one, preferred.
- 3 to 6 years of accounting experience, including hands-on ASC 606 work. Public accounting experience is a strong plus.
- Revenue experience in software, SaaS or technology services, ideally with a mix of recurring and services contracts.
- Government or public sector contracts a plus. PE-backed or high-growth company experience a plus.
- ERP experience required. ConnectWise or NetSuite a plus.
- Advanced Excel. You build schedules other people can follow and audit.
- You read a contract and see the accounting.
- Clear writer and communicator. You can explain a position to a salesperson, an auditor or the CFO.
- Owner’s mindset. You work with little supervision, hit deadlines and fix the root cause, not the symptom.
- High integrity and comfortable with sensitive and confidential data.
