This job offers the opportunity to work from home as part of a hybrid work arrangement. This arrangement will allow you to work some days at a TCHC work location and the rest of the time from home. The amount of time required to work at a TCHC work location is flexible, while considering operational and service delivery requirements.

Make a difference

Reporting to the Manager, Treasury, the Senior Financial Analyst, Grants will serve as the finance lead for the centralized grants function and support senior management and act as the finance lead for grant-related matters across TCHC. The incumbent will become a trusted advisor and provide financial expertise and guidance to support business decisions including but not limited to grant applications, funding agreements review, budgeting and financial planning, financial reporting, compliance reporting and various ad-hoc analyses. The role requires a self-motivated individual who can work independently while also fostering relationships with our stakeholders, including internal stakeholders and external funding agencies.

What you’ll do

Grants Financial Reporting and Compliance

Analyzing, and presenting grant applications, funding agreements, ensuring compliance with funding requirements, and providing insights for strategic financial planning which includes grant application and life cycle costing, and funder reporting packages

Performing month-end close process which includes but not limited to reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, performing monthly journal entries, accruals, and approval of invoices

Ensuring the accuracy and integrity of grant-related financial data, developing and implementing internal controls, and ensuring compliance with funding agreements.

Assisting in internal and external audits. Monitoring grant audits progress.

Financial Planning and Business Support

Lead the annual business planning oversight process with the business units in relation to identifying funding opportunities for operating and capital, including in-depth review of models/long-term assumptions, developing and maintaining financial models, conducting in-depth analysis of financial data, preparing forecasts and budgets, and providing recommendations to senior management to improve financial performance and drive business growth;

Collaborate with TCHC management teams to gather necessary data and inputs for grant application development

Conduct sensitivity analyses and scenario planning to assess the funding impact to senior management for decision-making support

Conduct various analyses and reports for senior management and the board of directors to support business decision making;

Ad-hoc analyses and presentations on grant funding opportunities, program results, as well as supporting any special projects

Governance & Reporting

Conduct regular meetings with business units and TCHC management for financial results and compliance review

Review all of the grant proposals, funding agreements and related reports prepared

Tracking outstanding grant requirements from funders and senior management and ensuring all requirements are addressed

Monitor and report on monthly key financial performance indicators and metrics

Monitor and ensure compliance with the funding agreements. Perform procedures for corrective actions as required

Other

Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including TCHC Staff, external funders and consultants

Support continuous improvement and productivity initiatives within the overall financial function

  • Acting as backup for TCHC finance staff as required
  • Other duties as assigned

What you’ll need

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Public Administration, or similar discipline;

  • Experience in grants administration, government funding programs or funding agreements;
  • Recognized professional accounting designation (CPA preferred)

Minimum 5-7 years of experience in public sector finance, non-profit or housing sector funding, relevant environment or related field;

Experience and knowledge working with government agencies and external funders;

Demonstrated experience with grant administration, financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting;

Demonstrated ability to build relationships, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and work with and across various business units within the organization;

  • Advanced Excel skills are essential;
  • Attention to detail and excellent analytical, reasoning and time management skills;
  • Ability to perform detailed reconciliations and numerical analysis;

Excellent interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to maintain professional and effective working relationships;

  • Self-starter; highly motivated and able to work independently;
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills;

Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines

Experience drafting, preparing and formatting grant applications, funding reports, board reports, letters, memos and statistical summaries.
