The Doc-To-Data Analyst is responsible for leading complex data analysis, loan-level investigations, reconciliations, and issue resolution across mortgage servicing and loan boarding activities. This role serves as a key escalation point for data discrepancies, mapping issues, reconciliation breaks, audit findings, and other complex operational exceptions. The Analyst performs advanced root cause analysis, evaluates risk, coordinates cross-functional resolution efforts, and develops corrective and preventive actions to improve data quality and operational controls. The role also identifies trends and systemic issues, supports reporting and process improvements, and provides subject matter guidance to junior and offshore team members.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary escalation point for offshore associates, prioritizing issues based on complexity, risk, aging, financial impact, and operational urgency.
- Lead complex investigations involving data discrepancies, mapping defects, reconciliation breaks, loan boarding issues, system behavior, conflicting documentation, and unresolved audit findings.
- Perform advanced root cause analysis to identify whether issues originate from source data, documentation, business rules, mapping, extraction logic, system configuration, workflow execution, or manual processing.
- Determine appropriate resolution paths, coordinate cross-functional stakeholders, and drive escalated issues through resolution and closure.
- Develop corrective and preventive action recommendations and monitor implementation to reduce recurring exceptions and control gaps.
- Lead complex reconciliations across source documentation, transfer data, Doc-to-Data outputs, boarding files, servicing system records, and downstream reporting.
- Interpret and validate code breakers, data dictionaries, field definitions, mapping specifications, transformation logic, and business rules to identify data conversion or reconciliation issues.
- Validate correction strategies and partner with Technology, vendors, and business stakeholders to test and confirm mapping, system, or process changes.
- Perform or provide oversight for complex loan audits involving multiple data sources, conflicting documentation, significant financial exposure, or unresolved boarding concerns.
- Lead investigation and resolution of complex, aged, unsupported, or high-risk corporate advance reconciliation items.
- Identify trends across exceptions, audits, and reconciliations to uncover systemic issues, emerging risks, control gaps, and automation opportunities.
- Develop and maintain reporting on exception volumes, audit findings, root causes, aging, resolution timeliness, reconciliation performance, and data quality.
- Translate analytical findings into clear recommendations and leadership-ready summaries outlining issues, risk exposure, root causes, and recommended actions.
- Support the development and enhancement of KPIs, controls, procedures, workflows, reporting, automation, training materials, and audit-readiness standards.
- Mentor and provide subject matter guidance to Business Analyst I and offshore team members on investigations, reconciliations, documentation standards, escalation quality, and analytical techniques.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant education and experience may be considered.
- 5+ years of experience in mortgage servicing, loan boarding, quality control, auditing, reconciliation, operational risk, data analysis, or a related operational function.
- Experience performing complex loan-level investigations, full loan audits, data reconciliations, and root cause analysis.
- Experience supporting loan transfers, servicing conversions, data migrations, data mapping, or similar complex data activities preferred.
- Experience with corporate advance, escrow, cash, financial, or servicing-related reconciliations preferred.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including lookup functions, PivotTables, data validation, exception analysis, and large-dataset reconciliation.
- Ability to interpret code breakers, data dictionaries, mapping specifications, transformation logic, business rules, and data conversion concepts.
- Experience with mortgage servicing systems, workflow tools, Power BI, SQL, or other reporting and business intelligence platforms preferred.
- Strong analytical, investigative, root cause analysis, and critical-thinking skills with the ability to assess risk and make well-supported recommendations.
- Strong written and verbal communication, stakeholder management, mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration skills, with high attention to detail and the ability to identify broader patterns and systemic risks.
