Assistant Executive Director
Byron Manor Senior Living | Byron Center, Michigan
2115 84th St SW, Byron Center, MI 49315
Full-Time | Salaried | On-Site
Run the operation. Develop the leaders. Make sure the plan actually gets executed.
Byron Manor Senior Living, a Cardinal Senior Living community, is looking for an Assistant Executive Director to serve as the operational right hand to our Executive Director and help lead the day-to-day performance of the community.
This is not an administrative assistant role.
You’ll directly lead department heads, coordinate priorities across the building, manage workforce and operating performance, solve resident and family concerns, and make sure commitments turn into results. When the Executive Director is unavailable, you’ll serve as second-in-command.
You’ll probably love this role if you like to:
- Lead leaders, not just complete tasks
- Turn priorities into clear owners, deadlines, and results
- Hold people accountable while helping them get better
- Walk the community and know what is actually happening
- Solve problems before they become bigger problems
- Connect staffing, labor, expenses, and service quality to business performance
- Handle resident and family concerns with urgency and ownership
- Bring different departments together around one operating plan
- Use data and facts to make better decisions
- Be the person people count on when execution matters
What You’ll Own
Community Operations
You’ll help run the operating rhythm of Byron Manor, including:
- Daily and weekly community priorities
- Department-head execution and accountability
- Staffing and operational readiness
- Work orders, vendors, projects, and service issues
- Move-ins, events, inspections, and other high-impact needs
- Cross-department coordination and follow-through
Your job is not to become the person who does everything.
Your job is to make sure the right people own the right things and get them done.
Lead the Leaders
You’ll directly manage department leaders and help build stronger operators throughout the community.
That means:
- Setting clear expectations
- Coaching with facts and observation
- Recognizing strong performance
- Addressing missed standards quickly
- Requiring leaders to own their departments
- Escalating leadership or capability issues when necessary
We want someone who builds leadership capacity rather than creating dependence.
Resident & Family Experience
You’ll maintain a visible presence throughout the community and make sure resident and family concerns do not disappear into departmental handoffs.
You’ll identify root causes, assign ownership, communicate clearly, and verify that issues are actually resolved. Assistant Executive Director_JD…
Labor & Financial Discipline
You’ll work with department heads and the Business Office Manager to maintain:
- Appropriate staffing coverage
- Schedule and attendance discipline
- Strong onboarding execution
- Overtime and agency control
- Expense and purchasing discipline
- Vendor accountability
- Performance against approved budgets
You’ll understand that labor, resident experience, service quality, retention, and financial performance are connected.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for an operator.
Someone who can walk into a busy community, understand what matters, establish priorities, align leaders, and drive execution without creating unnecessary bureaucracy.
Ideally, you bring:
- Demonstrated experience directly leading employees
- Experience managing department heads, managers, or multiple functions strongly preferred
- 3 to 5 years of progressive leadership experience in senior living preferred
- Experience managing labor, budgets, expenses, vendors, operating metrics, and performance issues
- Strong resident and customer-service judgment
- Ability to manage conflict and difficult conversations
- Working knowledge of safety, compliance, documentation, emergency preparedness, and risk management
- Strong communication, organization, and follow-through
A bachelor’s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Hospitality, Operations, or a related field is preferred, but equivalent progressive operating leadership experience will be considered.
Clinical licensure is not required. Clinical decisions remain with licensed clinical leadership.
Why Byron Manor?
At Cardinal Senior Living, our mission is to provide dignity, safety and care to our elderly residents.
Doing that consistently requires more than good intentions. It requires strong leaders, clear standards, disciplined execution, and people willing to take ownership.
The Assistant Executive Director has an opportunity to influence nearly every part of the community: the leaders, the workforce, the resident experience, operating performance, and ultimately the success of Byron Manor.
If you’re ready to move beyond managing a department and want the opportunity to help run an entire senior living operation, we’d love to meet you.
Apply today and help lead what comes next at Byron Manor Senior Living.
