We offer cottage-style living in a one-of-a-kind educational environment. Our 140-acre campus is lined with a vibrant pecan orchard and home to a working farm, all situated in the heart of Lake Waccamaw, North Carolina. While at BGHNC, youth are taught to develop and use their strengths in positive ways; they learn conflict resolution, time management and much more. It’s a way of life that builds self-esteem, responsibility and character. We utilize The Teaching Family Model as the framework through which we teach children the skills they need to heal and succeed. This method allows us to create a cohesive context within which healing from psychological and socially derived forms of traumatic experience can be addressed. Program unity is achieved by staff members who have a positive attitude about their work, who embrace the organizational philosophy, and who have the necessary skills and abilities to accomplish the work. We cannot bring about permanent change in the behavior of youth unless we help them change what they believe about themselves. We believe in the principle of servant leadership which is putting your best resources at the disposal of those who need them – putting those you lead first.
