Job Description

  • The Human Resources Generalist II is a key member of the College of Nursing
  • Human Resources team, providing comprehensive, customer-focused HR support
  • throughout the employee lifecycle for faculty, staff, postdoctoral associates,
  • OPS employees, graduate assistants, and other academic personnel. This is an
  • in-person position that requires regular on-site presence to support the
  • College's workforce and HR operations.
  • Reporting to the Associate Director of Human Resources, this position is
  • responsible for coordinating recruitment and hiring activities, onboarding and
  • offboarding processes, payroll and leave administration, personnel transactions,
  • records management, and general HR operations. The Human Resources Generalist II
  • ensures compliance with university policies, state and federal regulations, and
  • employment laws while delivering high-quality service to employees and
  • leadership.
  • The Human Resources Generalist II works closely with college leadership,
  • faculty, staff, and administrators to provide guidance on human resources
  • processes, policies, and procedures. This position supports the College's
  • workforce needs through the efficient administration of HR transactions,
  • staffing activities, employee support services, and operational initiatives that
  • foster a positive employee experience and effective HR service delivery.
  • The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to manage
  • multiple priorities in a fast-paced academic healthcare environment. Success in
  • this role requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, sound
  • judgment, a commitment to confidentiality, and the ability to build
  • collaborative relationships while providing responsive and professional human
  • resources support.

Recruitment and Staffing

  • Provides comprehensive support throughout the recruitment and hiring process

for faculty and staff positions.

  • Coordinates position postings, recruitment activities, candidate

communications, interview scheduling, and hiring processes.

  • Ensures recruitment activities comply with university policies, equal

employment opportunity guidelines, and hiring procedures.

  • Assists hiring managers and search committees with recruitment timelines,

candidate evaluations, interview processes, and hiring documentation.

  • Develops and coordinates campus visit itineraries for faculty and staff
  • candidates, including scheduling meetings, travel arrangements, accommodations,
  • and other logistics.
  • Drafts offer letters, appointment documentation, and related hiring materials.
  • Serves as a resource to hiring managers regarding recruitment procedures,

employment requirements, and staffing best practices.

  • Supports workforce planning, recruitment outreach activities, and retention

initiatives as assigned.

Onboarding and Offboarding

  • Coordinates pre-employment activities, including background screenings,

employment verifications, credential collection, and required documentation.

  • Facilitates onboarding processes for new faculty and staff to ensure a smooth

transition into the College and University.

  • Prepares and distributes onboarding materials and coordinates access to

systems, equipment, workspaces, and required resources.

  • Conducts new employee orientations and serves as a resource regarding

policies, benefits, and university procedures.

  • Ensures completion of required onboarding documentation, training

requirements, and compliance activities.

  • Coordinates employee separations, retirements, transfers, and offboarding

activities.

  • Processes separation paperwork and facilitates completion of required

separation procedures.

  • Coordinates the return of university property, removal of system access, and

completion of offboarding checklists.

  • Maintains onboarding and offboarding records and identifies opportunities to

enhance the employee experience.

HR Administration, Payroll, Leave, and Employee Transactions

  • Processes a variety of personnel transactions, including hires,
  • reappointments, employment changes, salary actions, funding changes,
  • terminations, retirements, and other employee lifecycle events.
  • Coordinates payroll-related activities and reviews transactions for accuracy

and compliance.

  • Reviews and processes personnel funding distributions and payroll adjustments.
  • Assists employees and supervisors with time reporting, leave administration,

and payroll-related questions.

  • Processes leave requests and leave-related transactions in accordance with

university policies and applicable regulations.

  • Coordinates Family and Medical Leave (FMLA) and other leave programs,

including documentation, tracking, and system processing.

  • Ensures graduate assistants, fellows, OPS employees, and other personnel

actions are processed accurately and timely.

  • Maintains personnel records and employment documentation in accordance with

university and regulatory requirements.

  • Provides guidance to faculty, staff, and administrators regarding HR policies,

procedures, and employment-related processes.

  • Collaborates with the Associate Director of Human Resources and University
  • stakeholders to ensure efficient processing of personnel transactions and
  • compliance with applicable regulations.

Employee Support, Records Management, and Operational Excellence

  • Provides responsive customer service and HR support to faculty, staff, and

administrators regarding employment processes and HR services.

  • Maintains personnel files, employment records, licensure documentation,

academic credentials, and other required records.

  • Assists with compliance reporting, audits, credential tracking, and data

requests.

  • Develops and maintains HR procedures, reference materials, and process

documentation.

  • Participates in special projects, process improvement initiatives, and

operational activities supporting College and University objectives.

  • Identifies opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, service delivery,

and the employee experience.

  • Supports employee engagement, recognition, orientation, and other HR

initiatives as assigned.

  • Performs other related duties to support the operational needs of the College

of Nursing Human Resources Office.

Expected Salary

$60,000-$65,000

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience;
  • or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public

Administration, or a related field.

  • Two or more years of professional human resources experience, preferably in

higher education, healthcare, or other complex organizational environments.

  • Experience supporting faculty and staff recruitment, onboarding, payroll

administration, leave processing, and employee lifecycle transactions.

  • Knowledge of human resources principles, practices, and applicable federal

and state employment laws and regulations.

  • Experience interpreting and applying HR policies, procedures, and

employment-related guidelines.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and

maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook,

Teams, and SharePoint.

  • Experience using Salesforce or similar customer relationship management (CRM)
  • systems to track requests, manage workflows, and provide customer service
  • support.
  • Experience utilizing Smartsheet for project tracking, workflow management,

reporting, dashboards, or process improvement initiatives.

  • Experience using Asana or similar project management platforms to coordinate

work, manage deadlines, and collaborate across teams.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders,

including faculty, staff, administrators, and external partners.

  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to handle sensitive and

confidential information with discretion and professionalism.

  • Experience developing and maintaining process documentation, reference

guides, and standard operating procedures.

  • Ability to analyze information, identify process improvements, and recommend

solutions to enhance operational efficiency.

  • Experience working in a collaborative, team-oriented environment while

maintaining the ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.

  • Professional certification in Human Resources (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or

equivalent) preferred.
