Our client designs and installs advanced audio, video, lighting and automation systems for ultra-luxury homes, hotels and private clubs across the country. The average project runs over $500,000, and the best ones rarely come in cold. They come from the architects, interior designers and builders who specify the work.
That’s your job: get into those firms, earn their trust and turn them into a steady source of high-ticket referred business. You’ll stay with each opportunity through the bid and help win it, and you’ll build the company’s social media presence so the work speaks for itself.
This role fits someone who has sold into the luxury residential or design-build world. Maybe you’ve sold custom cabinetry, high-end lighting, stone, window treatments, luxury appliances, pools or custom homes, and you know a referral from the right designer is worth more than a hundred cold calls.
About the Company
They’re a premier integrator of high-end technology for some of the most demanding clients in the country: ultra-luxury residences, boutique hotels and private clubs. Their work spans home automation, lighting control, distributed audio, home theater and video systems, all designed to disappear into the architecture and simply work.
What You’ll Do
Sales and business development
- Build and maintain relationships with architects, interior designers, builders and general contractors across the Chicago market
- Turn those relationships into a steady pipeline of referred $500K+ projects
- Lead consultative sales conversations with homeowners and project teams. You’ll listen first, understand the vision and recommend the right solution.
- Represent the company at A&D events, showrooms, lunch-and-learns, industry associations and trade shows
- Track relationships and pipeline in the CRM
Bidding and proposals
- Play a hands-on role in the bidding process, from reviewing plans and specs through final proposal
- Work with design and engineering teams to scope projects, build pricing and put together competitive bids
- Know your numbers: project costs, margins, pricing strategy and where there’s room to negotiate
- Present proposals to homeowners, architects and builders, and walk them through the value behind the price
- Follow bids through to close and keep your win rate moving in the right direction
Marketing and social media
- Build out and manage the company’s social media profiles, especially Instagram, LinkedIn and Houzz
- Showcase completed projects through photography, video and case studies
- Create content that architects and designers want to share with their clients
- Plan client appreciation events and A&D networking events
- Coordinate with photographers, videographers and designers on project content
- Measure what’s working and adjust
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary: $80,000 – $120,000
- Commission: on every project you bring in, with average project sizes of $500K+
- Health and dental insurance
- 401(k) retirement plan
- Paid time off and paid holidays
- Mileage reimbursement
What You Bring
- 5+ years in sales, business development or marketing in luxury residential, design-build, construction, architecture, interior design or home technology
- An existing network of architects, designers or builders in the Chicago area is a major plus
- Experience selling high-ticket projects with long sales cycles
- Hands-on bidding or estimating experience. You can read a set of plans and you’re comfortable building and defending a number.
- A numbers-oriented mindset: you track pipeline, margins and win rates, and you make decisions from the data
- A consultative selling style. You build relationships over months, not minutes.
- Comfort walking into a design firm and starting a conversation
- Hands-on social media experience: you’ve built a brand presence, not just posted to one
- A strong eye for visual presentation and design
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, polished enough for high-net-worth clients
- A self-starter who can run a territory independently
- CRM experience
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Home automation or AV knowledge is helpful but not required. They’ll train you on the technology.
