We are seeking an experienced Engineer in Precision Mechanical Design to join our team in Orlando, Florida to play a critical role in bringing innovative LiDAR and electro-optical sensing products from concept to production.
What You'll Do
Working alongside experts in optics, electrical engineering, systems engineering, manufacturing, and program management, you'll help solve complex technical challenges and shape products that define the future of perception technology. This role owns precision mechanical components and assemblies within highly integrated systems, translating system requirements into robust, manufacturable solutions that balance performance, cost, reliability, and quality, emphasizing hands-on design, documentation rigor, and tolerance control. You will provide technical leadership through architecture development, trade studies, design reviews, and engineering best practices to ensure successful product integration and execution. This includes:
- Driving concept development, trade studies, and design decisions that balance performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost.
- Developing 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and GD&T documentation using SolidWorks.
- Performing tolerance analyses and support critical design decisions related to form, fit, and function.
- Owning BOMs, configuration management, and engineering changes within a PLM environment.
- Leading ECR/ECO activities and evaluate cross-functional impacts to product performance and manufacturability.
- Applying structured problem-solving methodologies to resolve design, quality, and manufacturing challenges.
- Developing DFMEAs and proactively identify and mitigate product risks.
- Championing Design-to-Cost, value engineering, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborating closely with engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and program teams to ensure successful product development and launch.
- Providing technical leadership during design reviews and key product development milestones.
Success in this role requires
- A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- 10+ years of experience developing precision or complex hardware products.
- Strong expertise in mechanical design, GD&T, and SolidWorks.
- Proven experience owning products or subsystems from concept through production release.
- Experience designing components for machining, injection molding, die casting, and metal injection molding (MIM).
- Experience managing BOMs, configuration control, and engineering change processes in a PLM system (Arena preferred).
- Hands-on experience with tolerance analysis, DFMEAs, and structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8D.
- Knowledge of Design-to-Cost and value engineering practices.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Our ideal candidate will also have
- Experience serving as a technical lead, subsystem owner, or mechanical lead engineer.
- Background in electro-mechanical, opto-mechanical, or precision optical systems.
- Experience supporting products through development, validation, and production launch.
- Experience working directly with suppliers to optimize design, manufacturability, and cost.
- Experience in automotive, aerospace, defense, or other highly regulated industries.
