About Orb

We’re a team that cares deeply about the work, the people we do it with, and the customers we do it for. Everyone at Orb has real ownership over their work, direct access to customers, and a voice in how the company grows. We’re building the revenue design platform that helps teams automate billing, evolve pricing, and grow revenue with confidence.

Looking ahead, joining forces with Adyen expands what we can build and raises the ceiling on the problems we get to solve for customers. The challenges are uniquely interesting, and you’ll be surrounded by thoughtful, ambitious people who move fast and hold a high bar.

For San Francisco Bay Area , New York, and Amsterdam residents, we've built a hybrid work culture where we are in office 3 days/week. Our values, customer centricity, minutes matter, run with it, attention to detail, and go further together are at the core of everything we do.

About the role

Every usage-based business eventually asks the same three questions in real time: what has this customer consumed, what are they entitled to, and what should happen next? Orb's Entitlements & Spend Platform is the runtime layer where the billing state becomes something customers can act on: alerting, spend controls, entitlement checks, and usage analytics. As the designer embedded in this team, you'll own solutioning and vision-setting for that surface in partnership with your product and engineering counterparts.

This is a foundational role. Enterprise and AI customers increasingly treat entitlements, spend controls, and real-time analytics as a single problem rather than three separate features, which makes this one of the highest-leverage areas of Orb's roadmap — and one of the most open for design. The big questions haven't been answered yet: how customers express the limits and alerts they actually care about, what it takes to trust a product that sits in the critical path of their own spend and access decisions, and how one surface serves both the engineer wiring entitlement checks into their stack and the finance leader governing spend across thousands of accounts. Because it all runs against Orb's actual pricing, credits, and commits, clarity and correctness in the experience matter as much as the systems underneath.

You'll also be one of the senior-most designers at Orb, which means shaping design itself, not just this domain. Designers here own the whole lifecycle — discovery research, customer conversations, prototyping, implementation partnership, and post-launch QA — and our design infrastructure is still early. You should see that as the opportunity this role exists to take: building the foundations, raising the bar, and mentoring the designers who come after you.

In this role, you will

  • Flex across the organization's highest-priority design problems early on, with the judgment to decide where design time matters most
  • Own solutioning and vision-setting for the Entitlements & Spend Platform, working hand in hand with product and engineering from day 1
  • Drive the end-to-end design process, from discovery interviews and contextual inquiry through low- and high-fidelity prototyping, implementation, and post-launch iteration
  • Design for both halves of Orb's audience: developers who experience the platform through APIs and documentation, and the billing operators, controllers, and finance leaders who live in the application
  • Frame a fast-converging, ambiguous space into clear design opportunities, and define the patterns and primitives other Orb surfaces build against
  • Shape how Orb and Adyen come together — seamless transitions between billing and payments surfaces, and experiences powered by insights only joint billing-and-payments data can serve
  • Help establish Orb's design foundations: the design system, critique culture, and processes that will carry the team as it scales
  • Mentor and informally lead more junior designers as the design team grows

About you

  • 8-10+ years of professional design experience, preferably in B2B SaaS, with time at a growth-stage company. You've seen a product through the challenges of scaling without losing your scrappiness
  • Energized by ambiguity and ownership
  • You own the full product lifecycle: as comfortable interviewing a customer or QA-ing a release as you are in Figma, without a large research or ops function behind you
  • You excel at distilling complex workflows into intuitive user experiences
  • You advocate for your point of view with evidence and clear reasoning, and you engage in healthy debate with product and engineering to pressure-test ideas and arrive at the best idea together
  • You work iteratively, sharing early and often, and you're fluent with AI-native tools and workflows
  • You have an exceptional eye for detail

You might be a great fit if you

  • Bring context in billing, pricing, spend management, or other financially critical domains where correctness matters
  • Know what it takes to design platform, developer-facing, or usage-based products
  • Have designed for accounting and finance personas, or get excited about content design and UX copywriting
  • Aspire to design leadership and want to help build a team, not just join one
