Overview
The M365 Core Copilot Infrastructure team builds and operates the Large Language Model (LLM) platform that powers AI experiences across Microsoft 365. We provide the foundational capabilities that enable product teams to deliver scalable, reliable, secure, and cost-efficient AI experiences to millions of users worldwide.
As the Microsoft 365 LLM Platform team, we automate every phase of the AI lifecycle, from model onboarding and deployment to inference, capacity management, and operations. Through intelligent routing, caching, telemetry, and platform innovation, we enable the next generation of AI-powered productivity experiences.
Our culture is grounded in customer impact, technical excellence, continuous learning, and operational rigor. We value ownership, collaboration, and the ability to navigate ambiguity while shaping the future of AI at Microsoft.
We are looking for a Principal Product Manager to define and drive the strategy for platform fundamentals, operational excellence, and business impact across the M365 AI platform.
This role sits at the center of some of our most critical platform investments. You will set direction and align engineering teams, product leaders, and stakeholders across the AI ecosystem around investments that improve reliability, scalability, efficiency, and operational health for AI-powered experiences used by millions of customers.
Success in this role requires strong systems thinking and technical judgment. You will identify service bottlenecks, operational pain points, and platform debt; develop a durable product strategy and roadmap; and drive cross-team investments from problem definition through measurable outcomes. You will define the metrics that matter, use customer, business, and operational insights to make difficult tradeoffs, and hold teams accountable for outcomes rather than activity.
The ideal candidate is a product leader who thinks like a systems architect. You are comfortable reasoning about large-scale distributed systems, service dependencies, reliability tradeoffs, and operational complexity. You enjoy working across organizational boundaries, influencing technical direction, and bringing clarity to complex problems. Most importantly, you can translate technical challenges into prioritized investments that improve platform health, engineering effectiveness, and customer outcomes.
Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.
Responsibilities
- Define the product vision, strategy, and multi-year roadmap for platform reliability, operational excellence, and end-to-end service health across the M365 AI platform.
- Establish goals and success measures for customer impact, platform performance, operational health, engineering effectiveness, and business outcomes, and use them to guide investment decisions and evaluate results.
- Partner with engineering teams to prioritize investments that improve reliability, scalability, efficiency, and customer experience.
- Lead complex, cross-organizational initiatives by creating clarity from ambiguity, aligning teams with competing priorities, influencing technical and product direction without direct authority, and driving decisions that reduce platform risk and technical debt.
- Use data to influence technical priorities and clearly communicate decisions, tradeoffs, risks, and outcomes to engineering and leadership stakeholders.

- 8+ years experience disrupting a market for a product, feature, or experience (e.g., competitive disruption, taking the place of an established competing product).
- Experience with cloud services, distributed systems, platform technologies, or large-scale online services.
