About the Role

The Cost Accountant plays a critical role in managing and analyzing the financial aspects related to the production and operational costs within the organization. This position is responsible for accurately determining product and job costs, ensuring that all cost accounting practices align with company policies and accounting standards. The Cost Accountant will provide detailed variance analysis to identify cost-saving opportunities and support strategic decision-making. By maintaining and reconciling the general ledger related to cost accounts, this role ensures the integrity and accuracy of financial data. Ultimately, the Cost Accountant contributes to optimizing financial performance by delivering timely and insightful cost information to management.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Proven experience in cost accounting or a similar financial role.
• Strong knowledge of standard costing, job costing, and variance analysis techniques.
• Proficiency in ERP systems, specifically Microsoft Dynamics GP or JD Edwards.
• Solid understanding of general ledger accounting principles.
• Must be a sole US citizen without dual citizenship.
• Must be able to successfully pass various background screening requirements including criminal history, education, credit, and drug screen as well as obtain any required program specific credentials and certifications.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in a manufacturing or production environment.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
• Familiarity with product costing methodologies and cost control strategies.
• Experience in process improvement initiatives related to cost accounting.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and update cost accounting records, including standard costing and job costing systems.
• Perform detailed variance analysis to compare actual costs against standard or budgeted costs and investigate discrepancies.
• Collaborate with production, procurement, and finance teams to gather accurate cost data and ensure proper allocation of expenses.
• Reconcile cost accounts within the general ledger and prepare cost reports for management review.
• Utilize ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics GP and JD Edwards to manage cost data and generate financial reports.
• Support month-end and year-end closing activities related to cost accounting.
• Assist in the development and implementation of cost accounting policies and procedures to improve accuracy and efficiency.

The US base salary for this full-time position is $77K - $97K plus bonus and benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
