About Binks
Binks designs and manufactures finishing equipment used by industrial and automotive refinish customers around the world. Our plan is simple: play offense in the core and become the undisputed #1 in (Re)Finish. We run it on five pillars: Customer Experience, New Product Development, Portfolio Management, Operational Excellence and Commercial Engine. Our standard is the Binks Way: Bold, Innovative, Nimble, Knowledgeable, Sustainable.
We are a performance company. Pay, advancement and opportunity follow results and how they are delivered, and we deal with conduct problems when they happen.
The role
You own HR for Shoreview from your first day: the plant floor, the engineering and lab teams, and the corporate functions based here. You are the HR leader on site that managers and senior leaders rely on, and the one who holds them to the standard. Your job is to make performance management real at Shoreview: clear goals, honest ratings, pay that follows results, and fast action when someone is not delivering.
What you will deliver
Drive performance through the people managers.
- Implement Binks’s performance management program at Shoreview as it launches: goals cascaded from the five pillars, and every employee rated on results and on how they were delivered.
- Coach managers to set goals, give direct feedback and document it. Then hold them to doing it on time.
- Lead calibration for Shoreview. Challenge ratings that results don’t support, whoever proposes them.
- Help connect performance ratings to merit decisions as Binks builds its pay-for-performance approach.
- Move quickly on low performance: clear improvement plans with dates, and respectful, well-documented exits when plans fail.
Be a partner the leadership team respects.
- Advise site and functional leaders on organization design, talent and succession for the work in front of them: Lead Time Reduction, S&OP and Strategic Sourcing in operations; Smart Pumps, the Refinish Gun and the Shoreview Lab in engineering.
- Join the MDI walk to stay current on Shoreview Operations KPIs and the people issues behind them.
- Speak up when a people decision is wrong for the business, with facts, and hold your ground.
- Run quarterly talent reviews for Shoreview: who our top performers are, who is at risk, and who is ready for more.
Own employee relations and conduct.
- Keep a regular, visible presence on the production floor, so employees know you and bring issues to you early.
- Investigate complaints quickly and fairly, document findings, and recommend action.
- Represent employee concerns fairly while upholding business needs and company policy.
- Apply progressive discipline consistently for conduct, attendance and safety. Respect, integrity, safety and reliability are not negotiable.
- Handle leaves and accommodations correctly under FMLA, ADA and Minnesota law, in partnership with HR leadership.
- Conduct exit interviews and complete offboarding.
Keep Shoreview safe and compliant.
- Manage workers’ compensation claims from first report through return to work.
- Maintain OSHA recordkeeping, and support plant safety and OSHA training with Operations.
- Keep employee records accurate in personnel files and the HRIS, in compliance with EEO and related requirements.
- Give payroll the supporting documentation for employee pay changes.
Run the basics without being asked.
- Lead new hire orientation and onboarding for hourly and salaried hires, so new people are productive fast.
- Give Shoreview employees frontline support on benefits, policies and HR systems, including benefits open enrollment.
- Partner with the Senior Talent Acquisition Partner on Shoreview hiring and scorecards.
- Use data and AI tools to report turnover, open roles, overtime drivers and performance-cycle completion.
- Other duties as assigned.
What you bring
- 8+ years in HR, with at least 4 as an HR business partner or site HR lead in manufacturing.
- Hands-on experience running a performance and calibration cycle, and moving out low performers.
- Strong employee-relations judgment: investigations, documentation and discipline in a plant environment.
- Working knowledge of FMLA, ADA, Minnesota employment law, workers’ compensation and OSHA recordkeeping.
- The presence to challenge senior leaders directly and professionally, and the judgment to know when.
- Comfortable on the production floor and in the boardroom, with credibility in both.
- Private-equity-backed or high-growth company experience is a plus. SHRM-SCP, SPHR or similar is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
How we will measure you
In your first year: every Shoreview manager trained and every employee reviewed on time, calibrated ratings that match results, low performers addressed within one review cycle, employee-relations cases closed cleanly, and leaders who seek out your advice.
Binks is an equal opportunity employer. We hire, pay and promote on qualifications, results and conduct.
