About the employer
Mechanism Ventures
We engineer profitability.
In 2019, we started building profitable startups from scratch. We brought together top engineering minds from places like Princeton and MIT to drive the highest success rate in the industry and turn company building into a science.

During that time, we’ve built ten high-growth companies, driving $200M+ in revenue. Along the way, we’ve developed an engineering approach to entrepreneurship rooted in algorithms and advanced mathematics. Now, we’re working to automate company building to the point that we can press a button to launch profitable companies—ventures that can reinvest their own resources to become enterprises that help millions, or even billions, of people.

The posting, in full
Mechanism is a venture studio. We build, run and grow a portfolio of companies across health, sleep, golf, pets, education and fintech, with about 80 people. The product team is working toward something most companies only talk about, which is launching and running a company with a very small team and a lot of AI. Earlier this year we started a digital business from scratch that runs about 90% autonomously on AI agents. Agents handle most of the day-to-day work, and a person checks in, makes the calls that matter, and decides what to try next. Within months it reached a multi-million-dollar annual run rate.

Now we're bringing what we learned there to the rest of the portfolio. We also want to start more businesses like it.
The role
We're hiring a builder who understands growth and can ship real AI systems. You'll take the things our product team has proven in one business and deploy them across the rest of the portfolio. These are AI systems that touch almost every part of running a business, from acquisition and creative to conversion, retention and support.
You'll work with the founders and CEOs of our portfolio companies. You'll figure out what their business needs, build it, get their team using it, and measure whether it made money.
The long-term version of this job is running one or more mostly autonomous businesses of your own inside Mechanism.
What you'll work on
- Package the AI systems we've already built so they can be set up quickly at a new company, then deploy them. That can mean anything from connecting them to a company's tools and data to redesigning how a whole team works.
- Sit with a portfolio CEO, learn how their business works, and find where an AI system would save time or make money.
- Build working prototypes fast, put them in front of real customers, and iterate on what the numbers tell you.
- Explain what you built and why in plain language to people who aren't technical, and get them to adopt it.
- Run experiments across paid ads, funnels, lifecycle email and support, and know when a result is real and when it's noise.
- Hand off anything that needs heavier backend work to our engineering team, and know when that's the right call.
- Over time, take ownership of a business line and drive its growth with the tools you've built.
Who you are
You’ve spent time in growth, or in product on a lean team, and you’ve run campaigns, outreach or experiments yourself. You’ve owned a number like revenue, CAC or LTV. Somewhere along the way you started building with AI, and you got good at it.
- You've built AI systems that people actually use and that solved a business problem. You can draw how the pieces fit together and explain why you built it that way.
- You can write and ship code with AI tools. You don't need a computer science degree, and we care more about how you think in systems than which language you know.
- You have side projects you're obsessed with. You keep up with AI because you're curious, and you learn new tools quickly.
- You'd rather build the thing than write a report about it. You try a lot of ideas, expect most to fail, and move on quickly when they do.
- You're comfortable with ambiguity. Priorities here change often, and you're happy to say yes and own something new.
- You communicate well with CEOs and operators and can make a complex idea simple.
- You've worked at startups or small teams, ideally in DTC or consumer.
- If you’ve started your own company or have a side project you’re proud of, link it in your application.
This job probably isn't a fit if you want a lot of structure, a narrowly defined scope, or a large-company pace. Your title and resume matter less to us than what you've built.
Time Commitment
This role is full-time and will need to overlap with US ET for the majority of the workday. It is an exciting opportunity that demands a level of dedication beyond the standard 9 to 5. We need someone who's willing to go above and beyond to help us achieve our ambitious goals, and who's eager to put in the effort to make a real impact.
Location
US-Based - Fully remote.
Compensation
Our compensation packages are designed to make this your dream job for the short and long term. Each compensation package is tailored to suit your priorities and can include base, equity in the companies we help build, and performance bonus based on the success of our portfolio companies. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, and an unlimited time off policy with a two-week minimum.
